Kayaking with Dave on Lake Mohun

On Thursday morning Dave-of-the–splendid-speed-boat collected us at 10 am to go kayaking on Lake Mohun. He drove to down a logging road to a small hidden boat launch and off we went on our 5-hour journey across Mohun Lake. This is a very long lake with several lakelets (is there such a word?) stretching for miles.

On the way we met a disoriented wild turkey on the road.

The old railway for transporting timber across the lake can still be seen, although the trestle and bridge are nearly rotted away.

We had picnic at Loon Bay and then lifted the kayaks on shore near Morton lake and walked a short distance for a swim and more sandwiches.

We did about 9 kms on the still, clear lakes on that day. My aching arms a reminder of a really lovely day on and in the water, when the temperature reached a high of 34 degrees Celsius.
